Who are Murrays Painting?

Murrays Painting is an owner-operated painting business based in Orange, NSW 2800, serving Bathurst, Millthorpe, Blayney, Molong and the wider Central West. John Murray has painted for over 50 years and has completed over 240 homes across the Central West, plus commercial work for councils, schools and aged care providers. The business trades as Anamora Pty Ltd and holds NSW contractor licence 155166C.

Work covers interior and exterior repaints, Federation and heritage restoration in Orange, commercial projects, deck and fence staining, and colour consulting. Every job uses Dulux paints and carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee. The standard service radius is 40km from Orange with no travel fee, and quotes are free. John inspects each job personally at the preparation stage, which is where country conditions, frost, hard sun and temperature swings, decide how long a paint job actually lasts. The same care goes into exterior work in Orange and heritage homes in Bathurst.

Our services

Residential repaints are our bread and butter. Federation restoration is where John comes alive. Commercial work is selective: builders we know, projects where quality matters more than speed.

Why people in the Central West choose Murrays Painting

Over 50 years in the trade

Over fifty years in the trade. There is very little John has not already seen go wrong on a house, which is mostly what experience buys you.

John quotes it and supervises it

He prices the job himself and checks the preparation before a topcoat goes on, with Ron running the crew on site. The same two people from the quote to the last coat.

Preparation comes first

Most of the work happens before any colour appears. Sanding, filling, priming and sealing are what decide whether the finish lasts three years or fifteen.

Dulux and Porters materials

Premium paint on every job, with oil-based sealers on woodwork. Cheaper products cost less on the invoice and more on the repaint.

12-month workmanship guarantee

Twelve months on labour and materials. If something is not right in that time, John comes back and sorts it out.

Licensed, insured, reviewed

NSW licence 155166C, public liability and workers compensation, and a five star rating on Google from customers across the Central West.

About us

Built on preparation, not shortcuts

John Murray started in the building industry more than fifty years ago. He tried his hand at different trades before landing on painting, and once he found it, he knew it was what he was meant to do. He moved toOrange in 2004, and in the twenty-odd years since, Murrays Painting has become one of the most trusted names in the Central West.

The secret is not complicated. Sand every surface. Fill every gap. Seal every piece of woodwork with oil-based binder before any topcoat goes near it. Inspect at the preparation stage, because a fresh pair of eyes always picks up what the crew has been looking at all day. It takes longer, and it costs more than cutting corners, but the finish speaks for itself.

We are repeat customers and have once again been extremely happy with the quality of work and service provided. We recently had both the interior and exterior of our home painted, and the results were outstanding. The attention to detail was exceptional, and the quality of the workmanship really shows in the finished product. The entire team was professional, friendly, respectful and a pleasure to have around our home. They took great care throughout the job, kept everything tidy and ensured every detail was finished to a high standard. There's a reason we chose to use them again, and we wouldn't hesitate to do so in the future.

The quality is consistently high, they're punctual, reliable and communication is always great. As a builder, it's important to have trades you can trust, and I'd have no hesitation recommending Murrays Painting.

John and his team did an amazing job of a very complex project. Their quote was extremely reasonable compared to other quotes received. Their attention to detail throughout the project was impeccable. The work involved a total repaint, both externally and internally, of a very large timber double storey historic residence. The final magnificent result of their many months of labour are a reflection of their understanding and pride for their profession.

FAQ

Common questions

Honest answers to the questions we hear most often. If something is not covered here, call John directly.

How much does it cost to paint a house in Orange NSW?

Every home is different, and we price based on the scope of work rather than a flat rate. A single room typically starts from around $500 excluding GST. A full interior repaint for a three-bedroom home in Orange runs anywhere from $5,000 to $12,000 depending on the condition of the surfaces, the amount of preparation required, and the finishes you choose. We provide a free on-site quote with a detailed walk-through so you know exactly what you are paying for before any work begins.

How long does a painting project take?

A single room is usually a two-day job: preparation on day one, topcoats on day two. A full interior repaint for a standard three-bedroom home takes around six working days. Exteriors depend heavily on the weather and the condition of the existing surfaces, but a typical weatherboard home takes one to two weeks. We schedule exterior work around the seasons because paint applied in the wrong conditions will not last.

What paint brands do you use?

Dulux is our primary range because of their tinting availability, product consistency and the trust homeowners place in the brand. For specialty finishes and decorative work, we use Porters Paints. Nearly all modern paints are low-VOC, which means minimal odour and safe for occupied homes. We are happy to use a specific brand if you have a preference.

Do you paint heritage and federation homes?

Heritage and federation homes are one of our specialties. The work is almost entirely brush-applied because spray and roller do not suit the detailed timber profiles on verandah posts, corbels and fretwork. We typically work with three or more colours, and we take the time to pick out every moulding and detail by hand. We collaborate with heritage consultants and Orange City Council when the project requires heritage compliance.

How far do you travel for a job?

Our standard service area covers roughly a 40-kilometre radius from Orange, which includes Blayney, Millthorpe, Molong and surrounding villages with no travel fee. For towns further out like Bathurst, Forbes, Parkes, Cowra and Dubbo, we quote travel, accommodation and meals as part of the project cost. We typically block-schedule multi-day runs for distant projects to keep costs efficient.
