Overview
What to expect
Outdoor timber in the Central West takes a beating. Summer UV bleaches it, winter frost cracks the grain, and spring rain finds every gap the previous coat left behind. We strip back to bare timber when the old finish has failed, or sand and recoat when it just needs a refresh. The right product choice matters more than the brand: oil for hardwood decks, acrylic stain for softwood fences, and solid paint for anything that has already been painted.
What is included
- Full strip-back or sand-and-recoat options
- Product selection matched to timber species
- Oils, stains and solid colour systems available
- Pressure washing and timber brightening
- Merbau, spotted gum, treated pine specialists
- Seasonal scheduling for optimal absorption

Why people in the Central West choose Murrays Painting
Over 50 years in the trade
Over fifty years in the trade. There is very little John has not already seen go wrong on a house, which is mostly what experience buys you.
John quotes it and supervises it
He prices the job himself and checks the preparation before a topcoat goes on, with Ron running the crew on site. The same two people from the quote to the last coat.
Preparation comes first
Most of the work happens before any colour appears. Sanding, filling, priming and sealing are what decide whether the finish lasts three years or fifteen.
Dulux and Porters materials
Premium paint on every job, with oil-based sealers on woodwork. Cheaper products cost less on the invoice and more on the repaint.
12-month workmanship guarantee
Twelve months on labour and materials. If something is not right in that time, John comes back and sorts it out.
Licensed, insured, reviewed
NSW licence 155166C, public liability and workers compensation, and a five star rating on Google from customers across the Central West.

How it works
From grey and weathered to rich and protected
Timber exposed to the elements needs regular maintenance. Our process restores the natural beauty and seals it against UV, moisture and wear.
Timber assessment
John checks the condition of the timber — grey, splitting, mould, previous coatings — and recommends the right product.
Strip and clean
Old coatings stripped, timber sanded back, mould treated. The surface needs to be clean and open to absorb the stain or oil.
Stain or oil application
Product matched to the timber species and exposure. Applied evenly with the grain, excess wiped, second coat as needed.
Curing and care advice
We let it cure properly before foot traffic returns, and give you a maintenance schedule to keep it looking good.

What our clients say

We are repeat customers and have once again been extremely happy with the quality of work and service provided. We recently had both the interior and exterior of our home painted, and the results were outstanding. The attention to detail was exceptional, and the quality of the workmanship really shows in the finished product. The entire team was professional, friendly, respectful and a pleasure to have around our home. They took great care throughout the job, kept everything tidy and ensured every detail was finished to a high standard. There's a reason we chose to use them again, and we wouldn't hesitate to do so in the future.

John and his team did an amazing job of a very complex project. Their quote was extremely reasonable compared to other quotes received. Their attention to detail throughout the project was impeccable. The work involved a total repaint, both externally and internally, of a very large timber double storey historic residence. The final magnificent result of their many months of labour are a reflection of their understanding and pride for their profession.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Usually. It gets sanded back to open the grain, mould treated, then oiled or stained. Recoating over grey timber without sanding first is why so many deck jobs fail within a season.
No. John comes out, looks at the job with you and gives you an estimate on site, a written quote, or both. He handles every quote himself rather than sending someone else. On jobs far enough out that they need travel or a night away, those costs are quoted as part of the job so you can see them.
Every job carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee. John inspects at the preparation stage, which is where most problems are still cheap to fix, and again at the end. If something needs attention after that, call him.
Around $500 excluding GST. Below that the setup and travel usually cost more than the work is worth, and John will tell you straight rather than quote you something silly.
It depends on the surfaces more than the size, which is why there is no price list here. John prices per room, per hour, per square metre or per day depending on what suits the job, plus materials. The only accurate answer comes from him seeing it, and that visit is free.
